I am currently looking for a skilled map designer to design a detailed and immersive map for my game, Prisoner Life. The role involves more than simply drawing terrain; I need someone capable of designing the full structure, layout, and environmental flow of the world itself.
You will be responsible for determining the placement and design of major Points of Interest, including towns, facilities, landmarks, restricted zones, hidden areas, roads, and other gameplay-critical locations. In addition, you will design the map’s elevation, terrain variation, environmental atmosphere, and overall geography to ensure the world feels believable, strategic, and visually engaging.
The ideal designer should understand how map layout affects gameplay, exploration, progression, and player interaction. I am looking for someone who can create a map that is both functional and memorable, with strong attention to scale, immersion, and environmental storytelling.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing the complete world layout and structure
- Creating terrain, elevation, and environmental variation (LAYOUT ONLY; NOT ACTUAL TERRAIN)
- Planning and positioning Points of Interest (10-15 POI)
- Developing realistic or stylized geography that fits the game’s theme
- Ensuring the map supports gameplay balance and exploration
- Producing high-quality visual drafts and final map concepts
Experience with game map design, world building, level design, or environmental concept art is highly preferred.
